He was sitting on my bed watching me when I woke up this morning.
That was unexpected; we buried him last week.

The Discworld. I'd probably survive about a week at most, but it is where my most favourite books of all time are set. I would want to see so many of the characters from Lancre, and the Watch, but probably from a distance for safety!

I've got really behind on reading for pleasure of late, and been choosing to read favourites again when I've had time to switch off with a book for leisure. I'm just finishing up reading the A Song of Ice and Fire series so far again, to get back to the book world now the tv show is done. When I'm finished with that, I have the follow ups to Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth to read next.

The response to an article I published on my blog. It completely blew me away, and made me realise that the emotional impact of living with a reactive dog on the guardian is something that is not talked about enough. There is so much information about how to support and help the dog, but very little on the mental and practical support of the guardian.

It usually happens in the wee hours of the morning that an idea will batter my brain. Of course, I can never remember the next morning so it takes a few more times before the idea will stick. I tend to carry a notebook everywhere during the day so if ideas come to me I can scribble them down.

I'm currently on the second draft of a novel to dip my toe into the fiction world, and contemplating ideas for my next dog related book.

Write. Write and don't look back. I spent so long on previous projects writing, then reading back and editing each section as I went. I think I wrote chapter one of one novel attempt fifteen times. I got so locked in to getting that chapter perfect that I forgot to write the rest of the story and completely soured on it. Get the story or the subject finished before going back.

I love words and playing with them, trying to find the clearest way to express an idea. It can be a frustrating experience, but that moment when you read a line back and think 'That's the one!' is profoundly satisfying and worth all of the annoyance leading up to it.

Go and do something else for a while. Not long, just long enough to stop focusing on the block.
