I'm a little weird in that I very rarely remember my dreams.
Most of my ideas for stories come from real life (even the weird stuff). I tend to try and create fantastical versions of real events, even if they end up vastly different in the end.
Pillar of Bone was written for example after spending a few weeks with some Scottish people in work and becoming fascinated by how they speak. That got combined with a real pagan god to become what it is.

If you cant think of something specific to write. Just write anything. Even if its jumbled random nonsense there might be a good idea or two hidden in there. If find writers block to be less "I can't think of anything" and more "I can't think of anything good". Unless your putting out first drafts, you can always clean it up or cut it later.

My most recent story is actually based on a job interview my wife attended. The address given was for a high end office building, but the interviews were being held off site in a very shady area. She mentioned she found the walk creepy, and that sprang into an idea.
