It was a combination of several things. One was the ongoing political situation in Crimea and Ukraine overall, then the International response which seemed well... odd. Secondly a meditation on what single life might be like for a young man in our current decade.

I'm planning a crime novel, probably involving at least one gruesome murder, centred around the inner workings of English local government. So think wood panelled rooms, council chambers and rosettes.
