Adam S. Barnett Put it down and do something relaxing. Forced writing is about as promising as cooking when you're in a bad mood. I do something else that seems fun and then get back to it when my mind is back on track. Disclaimer: Most of my plot points come from taking a shower.
Adam S. Barnett You know, that title, "writer," has certain connotations that make me uncomfortable. I don't think of myself as a writer. Maybe some day. What I love about writing is the thrill of seeing people get my book, learn that they've read it, and finding out it was enjoyed. I hope I never get past the point when that makes my day.
Adam S. Barnett Don't be afraid to fail, and don't write with the expectation of success. Either one will kill your aspirations in a hurry.
Adam S. Barnett Although there are many funny parts in "The Judas Goat," it's got a pretty heavy theme. The next project I've started on is another "now that this is happening, wouldn't it be funny if...?" novel, but it'll be a lot lighter in tone.
Adam S. Barnett I have written five novels since I was a teenager, four of which I had the good sense to eradicate from the face of the earth. But every time, my writing got stronger and tighter. With "The Judas Goat," I reached a point in my writing endeavors where I could write something, put my name on it, send it out into the world and be okay with how it was received.
Adam S. Barnett I happened to be reading about several cases where criminal defendants were claiming self-defense. I set out to come up with the most understanding, sympathetic situation where a person could believe they were acting within the confines of the law where arguably they were not.
