I'm about halfway through the sequel at this stage. I'm approximately 6 months away from completion and two more installments are half completed drafts. If you're interested in seeing some of the concept art I've been posting it on instagram. The page is 'durancrossed'.

I realised, for a single moment, that I'd finally achieved everything I had dreamed of as a child. Then I woke up.

(view spoiler)[In 2005, Storm Petrel was the first in the series. I had no idea what I was doing and strung together a gigantic technical mess of text that a friend of mine bravely fought through in 2009. She asked me about a character mentioned only once, and said he sounded interesting. I thought because she managed to get through my book I'd do a short story about this guy that turned out to become Rennin Farrow. That "short story" refused to stop expanding and at this stage is the only book I have ever finished. So Raddocks Horizon started as a short story, became a prequel, and is now the start of the series. (hide spoiler)]

Music. Lots of music. Nine Inch Nails, Covenant and VNV Nation all had a hand in inspiring sections of these books. These three bands, particularly NIN, seem to be adept at setting off flurries of images and vivid sequences. Most are still not written yet as they dont tend to have any direct link to anything in the books, then suddenly it fits in like a predetermined jigsaw piece.

Currently three sequels to Raddocks Horizon. I'm trying to keep my focus on the next issue but the others won't leave me alone. The sequel is currently titled Storm Petrel and takes place directly after the first.

You'll never please everyone so write for yourself and tell the story that you alone want to tell.

You can do it anywhere. Every now and then there's this moment of a free flowing clarity as the characters almost become their very own presence and start doing the work for me. It's a lot of fun creating something and not really knowing what's going to happen.

Sometimes it's best just to leave it and do something else. It's usually the result of overthinking it. It feels almost like the mental equivalent of painting oneself into a corner. The first iteration of my series hit two consecutive dead ends at approximately the 200 page mark. I deleted everything and started again both times. Dont hang on to something that isn't working.
