Re-reading Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis. It's a review of all things evangelical, if you can stomach it!

I'm currently working on two projects at the same time. First and foremost, I want to compile several of the "Little Suzi" stories from my web postings into book form (something along the lines of the "Uncle Wiggly" collection). Second, I am continuing work on the third and final book in the Firedamp series, which I hope to complete and publish about a year from now.

My most recent book, Hunter's Moon, is a sequel to my first, Firedamp. Both have their genesis in events or characters I encountered during summer vacations and holidays with my kinfolk in Eastern Kentucky. About half the book is true; the remainder is fiction. For example, Aunt Pauline was real, as was Mammy, her cabin on the bald, and the swinging bridge across Straight Creek at Stoney Fork. Me-Curt, the one-legged hillbilly, was also a real person (related to my father). What I didn't write was that he actually used his .22 rifle to shoot fish in the water! I just thought it was too preposterous for anyone to believe.

Writing is the only cure. Write something, anything--even if it's gibberish-- until you feel the flow returning between brain and hand. Sometimes the act of writing is more important than the immediate result. (And if that doesn't work, read a good book first.)

I left home for good in the fall of my eighteenth year. My parents drove me the hundred miles to college in the family station wagon, but after moving me into the dorm, they stayed on for hours just to visit!
