In all sorts of ways. I can read something interesting and that might stick with me. Generally a philosophical idea, or thinking about the origins of something does it. Then I go from there and see where the idea leads.

It all started when I found out about the neurological condition, synaesthesia. This is a mixing of the senses, e.g. tasting shapes, or seeing coloured images when listening to music. I wondered if this would be an annoying or a useful thing to have. The idea didn't end up featuring too much BOA, but it was the starting point.
