A few years ago, I was gardening at my daughter's home in the country. I was alone and very intent on my border weeding. I glanced up at the house and saw what looked like a pioneer cowboy, wearing a dusty hat, dirty boots, even an old bandanna. He ambled past the porch, without looking in my direction, then faded away into the air. I do believe in apparitions, so I wasn't scared. Not long after, I penned a short story about a grieving widow who saw the same thing as I did.

I think I avoid it by breaking away from my writing when it becomes a chore or I'm obsessing about it. I want it to be something I look forward to doing.

If you love it, do it for yourself. Writing to me is mind therapy. I get lost in words and ideas. My mind gets a break from the monkey chatter all around us. Especially in these uncertain times.

I've been writing some short stories which I may produce in an anthology. I'm hoping to get back to writing poetry.

I need to be in the mood and not too hard on myself if inspiration doesn't come. Often I force myself to sit and start typing anything. Just that act can make things happen.

My most recent book was inspired by my daughter and son-in-law's sanctuary for nine much loved cats. I played it out to include a crazy collection of people and situations.
