I have a thriller manuscript on the go: this needs to be worked, possibly with more backstory and another 20k words! I am considering putting myself into a writer's workshop, to improve this one.

I plan my story in advance, drafting an outline for every chapter until the very end of the book. Then, I fill out each chapter. That approach (knowing the ending) helps me overcome writer's block.
If I do feel stumped, or I don't feel like writing at all, I make myself sit down at the keyboard anyway, and look over what I've recently written. It doesn't take long for the creative juices to start flowing again.
