Julie Kay Oh that's an easy one, the book is loosely based on my fathers life. He was in Occupied Japan at the end of WW2 and also suffered terribly from post traumatic stress syndrome. I always knew I wanted to tell his story and feel that if he were alive today he would have been very proud.
Julie Kay I have decided to stick with the theme of historical romance. The new book is set in country Victoria and then moves to the Vietnam war, then back to Victoria. I am not going into anymore detail yet just, 'Watch this space'.
Julie Kay That's a hard question because being a writer is putting yourself right out there on a limb, and that can be scary. You constantly worry, is it good enough, will people like it, what the hell have I done!! Well that's me anyway. But when the reviews come in and people genuinely like your book, there is nothing better in the world than having people, strangers or friends read and love your story.
Julie Kay If I have writer's block, which every writer gets, I close the laptop and go for a walk or watch my favourite show on Netflix. You can't force writing, it just has to flow.
Julie Kay I love writing historical romances and thought I would give the Vietnam war a go. I can't wait to get back to writing it.
Julie Kay At the moment I am concentrating on publicizing my current book but I have got 15,000 words of another book on the back burner. Its about siblings living in Daylesford during the Vietnam war. I am really excited about it and can't wait to find sometime to finish it.
Julie Kay My favourite thing about writing is when you complete a chapter and it just works for you. I wrote Chapter 12 in Lucca Italy when I was on holidays and just felt a sense of accomplishment that I (hopefully) had produced a really interesting chapter.
Julie Kay That is something that happens to most authors. I would normally close up my laptop and go for a walk or leave my writing till the next day. Sometimes inspiration just doesn't flow!!
