One of two ways. 1, take a break. Sometimes you need to let the well fill up again so you can draw on it some more. 2, I know this is going to sound snarky but I don't mean it to be: keep writing. It might be something stupid at first like describing the room I'm in or that I'm annoyed I can't think of anything, but if I write long enough eventually something useful will turn up so I can edit out all the rest I had to write to get to that point.

Don't get hung up on how good something is when you first start. You'll drive yourself crazy. Just get your ideas down, write the story--no matter how badly you feel are doing, because you can't edit a blank page. And the more often you do that, the better you get. You are your own worst critic, so don't let that stop you.

I compiled most recent book, An Optimist's Journal of the End of Days and Other Stories, from many stories throughout the years. Much was inspired by personal events in my own life, as well as pop culture, books I've read, philosophy--basically I wrote about the things I am passionate about.

Poetry books and probably some classics, but I haven't decided on what yet. It depends on when my library loans come in.
