Jon Dobbin I just ask myself "What if" questions. That helps me build some fun ideas which really pushes me to write.

Reading other books also inspires me. When a book I'm reading really hits something straight on, or does something exciting and new, that inspires me to write.

Jon Dobbin I'm currently finishing re-writes on my second novel. It's a fantasy novel, so it's something different and fun, but the re-writes are hell.
Jon Dobbin Find time to write. It doesn't have to be 1000 words a day, but it has to be something.

This works differently for everyone. Some need to set a timer and only work within that time. Some like to take little moments to write throughout the day. Play around with methods and strategies and see what works best for you.
Jon Dobbin I get most of my ideas from "What If" questions.
So, it may go something like this: "What if Macbeth played out in a small Western town?"
Really, its just something to get your ideas flowing. Something that will trigger that creative process.
Jon Dobbin Push through. Write even when you don't want to. Write even when you think it's stupid, or bad, or ugly. Write.
Jon Dobbin I hate to be cliche, but really the whole process was great. Since it was my first book, I just really took to it. It was nice to be able to just let all my ideas poor out on the page. It certainly helped that I had the idea for this book pent up in my brain for so long.
Even the editing and second drafting didn't seem to be as much of a drag as it has been. It was just an all around great experience.
