1. Write. Don't read about writing, don't think about writing, and don't talk about writing. Set a daily goal (500 words is reasonable to start out with) or a certain amount of time (1 hour minimum) and just do it.
2. Edit -until you have pulled out all of your brain cells. Be neurotic.
3. Get feedback. Swallow your fear and let others read 'your baby.'
4. Re-write as needed, based upon feedback. Be neurotic.
5. Study the market for your work.
6. Send out your work in a professional and courteous manner.
7. Allow yourself only 1 hour to feel bad about a rejection. (Yep, set a timer.)
8. Don't give up. It took me 13 years to publish "To Call My Own."
