LIFE. I've always thought no matter what you are always putting yourself in your art. There's so much of me in these characters but also so much that isn't me. Some parts were intensly hard to write because it's so not you, the decisions you'd make or maybe even it's morally comprimising to write a character living in that kind of discomfort.
Much like Layla - I moved from the South to New England. I have been labeled innocent becasue of my mannors, quiet demeanor, and my face just not matching my age. I didn't have my first drink until 25, I didn't go to house parties, or truly get into any trouble.
But there is pieces of me in each character. Ollie's crulty was definetly me in middle school trying to rebell against the innocence. Caden's muddy past and protective nature. Elizabeth's ability to take on too much and explode under it's weight. Hayley's pride. B being the life of every social encounter. Hunter's inability to understand other points of view.
That's what is so great about characters or people, they aren't ONE thing. There is something similar in all of us.
So there is no one idea or inspiration. It's everything, everyone, every where.
