Wendy Nelson-Sinclair I step away from the story for a short while. Some people combat writer's block by continuing to write, and that's okay. For me, that does not work because I need a clear head when I set down in front of the keyboard and bring people and places to life. Long walks in the park help as well. What is most effective for me is going for coffee and having a long talk about nothing with my best friends. Relaxing has a lot to do with it. If there is too much on my mind or I am bogged down by life, that takes a toll on my writing. Separating myself from it for a brief moment makes all the difference in the world.
Wendy Nelson-Sinclair The best thing about being a writer is experiencing different worlds, different time periods, genders, religions, lifestyles, cultures, and perspectives through your fingertips. The other great thing about being a writer is to know that somewhere out there in the great wide world, there is someone who is waiting for your book. Someone who relates to your characters and connects with the story on a personal level. That is why I write.
Wendy Nelson-Sinclair Find what works for you. There a lot of people out there that will tell you that one way is best, while others will tell you to follow another path. Find your out routine, what schedule works for you, set a daily word count if you want to. Don't focus on someone else's work or journey, stay in your own lane. It's okay to shoot for the same goals but remember to focus on your own work and find what process works for you.
Wendy Nelson-Sinclair I am currently at work on my second novel, Carved in Stone, as well as the debut novel from my The Island of Mists historical fantasy series. Both are due for December 2019 publication.
Wendy Nelson-Sinclair I find inspiration in may different ways. It can be something I hear said in passing, to something on TV, or even just thinking about what I am writing. Inspiration can come in many different ways.
Wendy Nelson-Sinclair From a dream. The idea came to me while I was dreaming about visiting London and experiencing a Ripper flashback. I wrote that experience down and the book just grew from that point.
