The closet doors rattle, again at the stroke of midnight. Tonight, they open on their own.

Deadlines. They help me get over any kind of block I may have. My desire to finish a story in time for a submission call or for a publication is what keeps me going up and over that 'block'. I find that taking a step back, going for a walk or doing something physical also helps. If I think about an issue or problem before bedtime, I'll often dream about a solution or a way out of a corner I'd written myself into.

I love creating something out of nothing, having a whole world unfold before me that I never knew existed before. I am discovering the story as I'm writing it and it's a thrill every time.

Beyond the basics: read a lot, write a lot, I would highly recommend Neil Gaiman's MasterClass. He's always been such a huge inspiration for me and if you are thinking about writing genre fiction and/or comics, his advice will be priceless.

I've had the idea for THEY HIDE: SHORT STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK for over 20 years. My favorite go-to books are themed, monster anthologies. I have whole books on vampires, werewolves, witches, etc. with various stories told by a multitude of authors. I love seeing how creative and unique each story can be when tasked with the same topic or trope. I always thought, 'what would be my take' on a witch story, a ghost, a haunted house? That's what inspired me to write this collection of short stories. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could come up with a different take on these well worn and beloved tropes.
