L.A. Pontes I'm currently working on the second Hammer Hood story, which is almost ready. It’s called "The Southside Girl" and it has a great powerful female character who will give Ronnie a lot of trouble! It’s really looking great.
L.A. Pontes Very often music is the inspiration; a song that I really like, usually an old song, but sometimes a new one to me, if it’s really good, or different, exotic in some way. Like Yeasayer ‘2080’, which really made me trip, thinking about a wonderful journey of some kind.
Most times it has little to do with the lyrics or at least the whole lyric. It’s much more the melody and the instruments and a line or two that stands out for some reason and reaches me. Music is instant inspiration and I don’t know what I would do without it. There are other sources, but music is the greatest, no doubt. It evokes memories and feelings – and thoughts – in a way nothing else can.
L.A. Pontes Well, it wasn't really an idea, it was much more than that; It was a need, you know? Writing has always been like that for me. I guess for any true writer, it’s a necessity, a need.
This book wasn’t any different. It came from these deep feelings I had of my teenage, of my young adult age, which was very intense for me, very rich. And in many ways, unsolved, unresolved. So it all comes down to the feelings, you know? And then in the process of writing the book you have to rationalize a lot because a book is much more than just writing a note and you have to think of all the layers and its really a hard construction, it takes a lot of time and effort. Then goes the rationalization, but often interposed by these feelings that bring inspiration, that keeps the fire of the book going.
