I have been kicking around Just One Mo for a long time. My dear friend Courtney was the actual person to give me the idea. We sat and talked about a failed project he and I never committed to and the story emerged. Sometimes a story takes time to appear.

I am pretty methodical. I believe in outlines. I am that guy. I recently saw a meme of the Charlie Day from Always Sunny in Philadelphia in front of a whiteboard with all these theories strung out behind him. That's me. I just start with one idea and as I poke at the idea it grows.

I am presently working on another YA novel set in Chicago about some kids who get in trouble. I find that when I was a kid it was a magical time. I have all these stories related to my life in my head and I want to put them on paper.

Keep writing. Too many people try to discourage young and new writers. Not me. I'm a black man trying to say things that I have not heard or read anywhere else. I can't be the only one. Just keep writing and be passionate about what you write.

Being creative. Think about it. We take ideas and craft those ideas and create something from literally nothing. It's pretty cool.

I don't really get writer's block. If I get tired of writing I take a break. I might write something else. There are all these ideas in my head. I just continue to write them down. I just need time to write them out.
