Some writers are very dedicated and literally write every single day. I do not. I will go for days or weeks at a time and write absolutely nothing and then suddenly an idea will form in my head and it is like a stack of dominoes. Before I know it, I have written several poems or a story or two. Usually it is a dream or something truly simple that becomes the platform for a poem. I don't always know myself where it is going to take me. The journey is just as much a surprise for me as a writer as it is for you as a reader.

I have always been a reader. I run a local book club for women so last year by goal was to read 50 books. This year by goal is to read 55 books. I don't have genre restrictions so I don't have a list of books to read this summer, but I am a huge Shirley Jackson fan and I really wanted to read it last summer. I finally read it last fall.

The book has a compilation of poems written before 1997 and in the past two years. It also has a short story that I wrote back in 2000. After several rewrites and edits, it is the story it is today.
