Work on a different part of the book. Sometimes I just write brackets and put [INSERT A COOL SCENE HERE] if I can't see the next mile marker.

If you call yourself an "aspiring writer" because you want to be a writer but do not have the courage yet, my advice is this: you already have something in you that you want to tell. It might be a short story, an essay, a novel, or an entire career worth of novels. But whatever it is, write it. The difference between "aspiring writer" and "writer" is one wishes and the other one does.

I have taught middle school English since 2007. There are a lot of troubling trends in public education, but the one that frightens me most is the "corporatization" of education. Districts are desperate and underfunded, parents and students are powerless, and corporations are making millions from it.
