LOL. I can write a horror story in one word that would terrify me ... Spider! That's it ;-)

A friend recommended the Red Queen Series. I'm going to try to read as much of that series as I can. I'm usually always reading several books at once. Some are for enjoyment, while others I read to gather helpful information on writing my next books.

I'm still very new to this so I'm sure as time goes on the answer to this question may change. One thing I enjoy about being a writer is that when it comes to the story, I'm the one in the "driver's seat" and where the story goes is up to me. But the biggest thing I love about it is that its a chance to escape from everyday life. For some people life can be very stressful. When I first started writing, I did it as a way to take my mind off work and wind down in the evening. I thoroughly enjoy it and can't wait to get the next book out.

Everyone has there own way to do this. For me, I reach out to my friends and family when I'm struggling with an idea on how to get from point A to point B, or when my "Why" for the story isn't developing right. Sometime they can have some good ideas or say something that can spark one in you. Often too, just stepping away and letting your mind rest can help a lot.

Don't give up. I don't want to be discouraging but writing is the easy part. It's everything that comes after that's hard. It takes a lot of time, but stick with it. When you are finally holding that finished, published book in your hands and you can finally say "I did it!" It's worth it.

Currently, I'm working on another YA Fantasy novel told in first person. It will be heading to the editor in a couple of months. There's a description of it on my web page: kjsimpsonbooks.com, along with another project that I've been working on.

Because I love the outdoors, I find going out on a hike, kayaking or fishing is very inspiring to me. It gives me the chance to get away from the business of life and clear my mind. Nature can help when I'm trying to develop a scene. Different places have such an array of plants and wildlife that you can use to create a picture of a new world you want to provide to your readers. Strange trees or bushes and funny looking bugs, nature is incredible for the imagination.
