Read as much as you can. It's one of the best ways to learn about plotting, story structure, and much more. No matter how many rejections you receive, and you will receive them, keep writing. I was 51 years old before I had my first novel published.

Great question, Stephanie. The one song that is now a little harder to listen to is "This Flight Tonight" by Nazareth. The story that went with that song was about the relationship between a boy and his father. My dad passed away about a year ago, so it was a tough one to write and now a tough song to listen to. Thanks for your question.
