S.J. Doran The World build for Fobidden Realms was developed in late 2017, completed early 2018. It was meant to be a base for short story development, but Cassius and Amara had ideas of their own.
I can't name one specific thing that sparked the idea for the series, yet there was a definite turning point with Cass and Mara where their story just demanded more.
We've known how the series would play out since we finished development of book one (both parts). The ideas for each book, outside of the general outline come from the characters themselves. Their motivations and reactions, which we hope read true to life as we intend them.
S.J. Doran (S) and I thought we'd take some time after getting Foretold polished and released. Alas, before the edits were even complete, the outline of Fallen was finished and we had no choice but to start writing.
Cassius and Amara are demanding masters, and we have a perky fallen angel that needs some redemption.
yeah, we've written about a third of it now, and boy, it's a doozy.

S.J. Doran firstly, the question that's always in the forefront of my mind is 'what if'. being highly introspective with a philosophical bent, I see plot potential in even the most monotonous of daily occurrences.
as to what sparks off a story--simply, writing. Turn on the tap and the ideas flow. I get so immersed in my characters that they run dialogue through my head during daily mindless tasks, and everything turns into 'how would (X) react to (Y)'.
I listen to a lot of music, my tastes are eclectic and mood-based. Video game boss-battle soundtracks will be playing when I'm writing more intense scenes, classical when I want ambience and mood. I have a spotify playlist that I crank while I'm driving around (my best thinking time) that's all geared towards Forbidden Realms and the characters.
Lastly, reading. My reading tastes are as eclectic as my musical ones, from horror to fantasy with a strong leaning toward romance. It's my nightly wind down time (ha ha) and I'll usually find myself still reading at 2 am (one more chapter). (when I'm trying to sleep and my characters start nattering away and making demands.)
