K.C. Wilson First, I turn off the tv. Sometimes I like instrumental music in the background. Ottmar Liebert's acoustic guitar sets the right tone. Coffee, of course, is in supply. Inspiration, I find, is referential. I look over my notes, thumb through books or other materials, scraps of song lyrics, old poems that never got finished. One thing leads to another. I try to be open to odd diversions that may or may not amount to anything. When they do, that's a start. I try not to burden myself with expectations. Inspirations don't have to be brilliant. I must try to be receptive to the spark.
