He brought home the cat: adorable, snuggly, affectionate. Moments later, she entered the litter box, and proceeded to peed OUTSIDE of the box, as she would ... FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE.

Book 2 of RNWY Universe: a world that's even bigger, more vast, and more interesting than Book 1, and a natural progression for the characters, who were "too big" for their world to begin with. They're in need of a place where they can use their unique abilities and outlook on the world to do some good, and can really feel the heat of challenge.

In the book The Secret (which I resisted reading for a long time, as a bunch of "hocus pocus"), it said something about visualizing your perfect world, with no limitations. I thought to myself: Just for fun, what would the perfect world look like if it had no limitations WHATSOEVER: either in time or space. I started writing that down, then realized it was a world that would be fun to "live in" through fiction.

Ha! For me the trick is not to get discouraged. I just try and step back and "find the fun." When I get stuck, it's usually because I've gotten too tied to a concept or idea that isn't working. So rather than get stressed (about the fact I may have to go in a different direction or even dump what I have!), I try and find something new and fun. And sometimes I have to relax and WAIT for the fun: just let it simmer in the background. Most of the time, some new idea comes, and I either go in that new direction, or I'm able to combine it with my "stuck" idea to create a new, more fun version of what I have. I figure if it isn't fun to write, it won't be fun to read. So I try not to worry and just "look for the fun," and — most importantly — HAVE fun!
