J.F. Collen I am immersed in the history of the Erie Canal! I have been reading primary source documents and researching its construction for the backdrop for three chapters of my second book in the Journey of Cornelia Rose Series -- Pioneer Passage.
It was so much fun to explore parts of the canal, which are still in use. I traveled north & west to go to Lockport, New York to see the double steps of five locks, an engineering wonder of 1825. The National Parks museum by the locks was outstanding. The introductory film was captivating and used modern technology to engage the audience.
The area had well-placed signs explaining the historical significance, and the mechanical wonders of the locks.
It was great to be able to picture my heroine on the canal and imagine her what she saw and felt as she traveled.
I am busy writing about her floating along the canal now, adding texture to her story through my own first hand experience.
J.F. Collen Take a walk in an historic place--which is pretty much everywhere on the East Coast!
