Mandi Oyster I have a ton of books I want to read, but right now I'm working on too many of my own. As soon as I get a chance though, Ghosts of the Shadowmarket by Cassandra Clare, Shadow & Flame by Mindee Arnett, Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa, The Evil Queen by Gena Showalter, Pan's Labyrinth by Cornelia Funke, These Divided Shores by Sara Raasch, Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff, When She Reigns by Jodi Meadows, The Tyrant's Tomb by Rick Riordan ... The list goes on and on.
Mandi Oyster This is a really tough question. All of the fictional worlds come with their own problems. Today, I think I would choose to be a teacher at Hogwarts, but tomorrow I'm sure my answer will be different.
Mandi Oyster The child's scooter zipped down the driveway. The driver didn't have a chance to stop.
Mandi Oyster I've dealt with it by walking away for long periods of time, by just putting my butt in the chair and writing anything that came to mind, by reading somebody else's book to get away from it. Walking away from it was the worst option. It took far too long to get back into writing.
Mandi Oyster I love finishing a book and going back and reading it a couple weeks later to check for typos and plot holes and all that jazz. Sometimes, I get to the end and think, "Wow! I wrote that?" It's a wonderful feeling when you love what you wrote. So far Book 3 is my favorite.
Mandi Oyster Write. Research. Write some more. Realize that not everyone will like your book, but it also might be somebody's all-time favorite. Oh, and then, write more.
Mandi Oyster I'm trying to get Dacia Wolf and the Dragon Lord (Book 2) and Dacia Wolf and the Fallen Prince (Book 3) ready for publication. I'm also editing Dacia Wolf and the Demon's Mark (Book 4) (name might still change). And, I'm writing Dacia Wolf and the Darkness Within (Book 5) (name might still change on this one too).
Mandi Oyster Sometimes the need to write is so overwhelming that you have no choice but to sit down and do it. Other times, you stare at the screen or the notebook, hoping words will come, writing anything that pops in your head, praying one of those things will spark an idea. The great part is if you don't like it, it can be edited out.
Mandi Oyster Dacia Wolf and the Prophecy started with a dream sequence that kept playing through my head over and over. Finally, I decided to write it down, and the rest of the book followed. I don't even think that dream is in the book anymore.
