My best ideas come from strong visual landscapes. Rocky inland terrain; wild coastal bush; snow and ice. I have to see, smell and feel these places, then they are in me always, and they help me find my stories.

Cups of tea help, and walking my dog. But eventually I just have to sit at my computer and start writing something. Anything. Even when it feels like I'm writing rubbish, it keeps the story burbling away in the back of my mind.
