D.E. Knightley I know it has been said before and it will be said again, but with all the books in the world, I just couldn't quite find what I wanted to read - so I wrote it.
D.E. Knightley I actually desperately wanted to find a romance novel that I liked, and I searched far and wide, but just couldn't find anything to my taste. Then I found a sci fi novel that was not officially a romance, but I found the romance in it was way more romantic and enjoyable! The male and female characters were both strong and interesting, and I thought, can I create characters like that? And I sure could, so Kendra and Aran were born. And they took shape in my head and then their story did. I wanted to make them both strong, capable, complex and flawed. I am fascinated by how people behave in stressful environments and situations, so I placed them in a high-stress, dangerous, emotionally brutal environment, and cursed them with an inexorable attraction for an enemy. Then I let them at it, and wrote it down! It has been an amazing experience!
D.E. Knightley My second novel in the Kendra Veiss series, Clinched Deals. I'm loving it! Can't wait to test it out on some beta-readers.
D.E. Knightley I do the mindless, boring chores around the house. Whenever I'm bored, my mind kicks in automatically, making up stories to entertain me. It's always been this way. So I get my best ideas while weeding, cleaning the shower stall, vacuuming and doing the laundry. I know this was not what you wanted to hear, but it works so well, I don't do the chores nearly as often as I should! ;-)
D.E. Knightley Enjoy writing - but of you want to publish, be diligent, do your homework, and temper your expectations of instant recognition, fame and fortune. :) Especially if you are self-published.
If you are self-published, enjoy the freedom you have to do whatever you want with your plot and your characters. But also, seek independent feedback and hire a properly qualified editor before you publish, I implore you! If you don't, your book simply won't be as good as it can be, and could very well be more terrible than you suspect. I have read plenty of self-published novels, and I can always tell which ones weren't professionally edited. So can readers at large.
D.E. Knightley Living in whatever world you want! Getting the privilege of creating people (other than in the usual way) which to me are just as real as anyone I know. Exploring human nature in all its glory, ugliness and wonder on the alternative earth world of Terra I created for my Kendra Veiss series, and presenting the female perspective on things.
