When it comes to the series Such a Colorful Feeling, I've always had an academic sort of interest in drugs from a young age. In adulthood, I've struggled with prescription drugs. In one year I went off benzos cold turkey in the spring and opioids cold turkey in the fall. I totally lost my mind as a result and wanted to write about it.
The spark to the worldbuilding was actually from a vivid nightmare I had in my teens. This was supposed to be a short story about that nightmare. I don't think I'm capable of writing short stories!

You wouldn't believe how inspiring my lifelong problem with nightmares has come to be. But generally, I don't rely on inspiration. I think that's a major mistake.

I went through a long self improvement phase and learned productivity. I don't really have writer's block anymore. If I feel some resistance, I meditate or listen to music. My favorite motivational motto is "no options". I don't give myself the option to write or not. There's one option, and it's writing.
