Michelle Mars First I give myself space and try to figure out if there is something specific blocking me. Just knowing what is standing in my way helps because if its in the story, I can change it, and if its in my life, just acknowledging what the problem is can help to set it aside during writing time. Once sitting down to write, if I am still struggling, I might start writing something/anything that is in my head. If there is the beginning of some new idea, a draft of a future scene, short story, what my day was like... etc. The idea is to just start writing something.
Michelle Mars I love imagining all of the stories and characters. At this moment in time, I have about 25-30 stories swirling around in my head. It is so fun to see a story you have had as a mere sketch or impression of in your mind come to its fully fleshed-out and experienced conclusion that you can share with others.
Michelle Mars I messed with my first book's first few chapters for so long and the best advice I received was to finish the damn book. Once you have the whole story, you can change things, cut things, edit things, but until you know what the whole thing looks like, you will continue to fiddle with something that may not even make the cut. (This is from personal experience. The original beginning first chapter for my debut was cut once I saw how it all went together. Found a better starting point.)
Michelle Mars I am currently working on multiple things. I have two short stories set in the Love Wars series that I'm not yet sure how they will be released. One is a prequel and one happens down the line a bit. Mostly, I have been working on getting book 2 of the Love Wars series finished so that my readers can see what happens next. Following that will be book 3 and then the first in a contemporary romcom series (Book 1 is mostly written) that I can't wait for everyone to read.
Michelle Mars My inspiration often comes from a desire to make people laugh, awww, fan themselves, and feel good by the time they finish my books. That connection between me, through my characters and stories, to someone else, is a gift. Books have always been a light in my life and I want to do that for others.
Michelle Mars For Moving Jack I wanted to write something bananas, funny, and hot. I have always loved paranormal romances as well as sci-fi romances and wondered if I could come up with a way to mix the two. What happens if an alien comes to earth, but instead of a human, falls for a vampire. From there, the story just kind of spun out. My characters are always driving the stories I write.
