For me, it's time outside that tends to spark my imagination most, but of course it's difficult get actually get much written while out on a trail. I have a rough office on my front porch where I work as often as possible, with a nearby birdfeeder to add just the right amount of entertaining diversion.

I suppose one particular bear encounter (I've had too many to count!) was the seed of this story, and the fertile ground it landed in was my desire to try to reconcile the two seemingly-opposing belief systems that I was exposed to in my earliest years, and to do that in an adult context.
