I don't make reading lists. I continually find books I want to read, and either read them or file them away for the next time. I used to say that such and such was to be read "after Proust" or "maybe before Proust," but now I am old enough to wonder when I'll get to Proust. I once opened "Young Girls in Flower" at random, and found myself laughing. But I read mostly for pleasure, and I love to find an author I just have to read now. Most recent was Elizabeth Gaskell.
