Susan Bacon Pam! Great to hear from you. Yes, Delawareans seem to love it. The story originated with a screenplay I wrote about Alger Hiss back in the 1990s. That became the foundation for the Hiss thread. A book about the DuPont Company that was on my mother's bookshelf inspired the thread about the the chemical company. I love history, so I enjoyed the research. I'd love to connect. You can reach me via my website which is easy to find if you do a google search. (I don't know if I can post it here). Very best! Susan
Susan Bacon The idea sprang, first, from my interest in the Alger Hiss case of the McCarthy era. But the real inspiration came from my love of two classic political thrillers of the 1970s—Three Days of The Condor and Marathon Man. Originally books by James Grady and William Goldman, respectively. A few scenes in THE HISTORY TEACHER pay homage to those great films. Oh, and another movie: Charade—the '60s classic starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant—an intricate suspense story with a bit of levity and a dash of romance.
Susan Bacon I'm not big on horror. Suspense, yes. Horror, no. So my two sentences would be: "It's time to shut your eyes." And "It's okay to open them now."
