Chad Lehrmann I grew up near a small town (about 2000 people) and we had a disproportionate number of teenage deaths for our size. As a writer, those tragedies have seeded some story ideas about cursed small towns- not unlike Stephen King’s Derry. I feel drawn to the contradiction of the security people expect to find small towns with the darkness that close connection inevitably brings.
Chad Lehrmann Knock on wood, I have not had much. But what I have found is when I hit a stumbling point that might become writer's block, I let it be a chance to let my mind wander. The block might just be a subconscious mind hint that the direction I was going needs to be changed.
Chad Lehrmann Creation. Making up people and stories and worlds is so empowering and freeing. I love it!
Chad Lehrmann Blog. Journal. Write down your ideas. The best way to learn to write is to do it. And the most important thing is to find your voice, which you can't do if you don't write. So even if you don't share with everyone yet, write.
Chad Lehrmann Book two of Sawyer Shepherd Chronicles. Entering the last third of the story right now. Book three's outline and general idea is starting to fill out, too.
Chad Lehrmann It may be a song I hear, or a scene in a movie/book that gives me a hook. For it is important to harness the inspiration when it hits- even if that means I only take time to write down one line or phrase. That gives me the anchor point to come back to- and a strong desire to get back to it before I forget why I wrote that down.
Chad Lehrmann It's the second book in a series, but the overall concept came from wanting to do a serial killer story in a supernatural world.
Chad Lehrmann A man walks up to you and hands you a note that reads, "The next person you meet with green eyes will be your killer." You meet his green eyes with your own.
Chad Lehrmann Middle Earth- it seems so beautiful and tranquil when Sauron is napping that I'd love to go hiking.
Chad Lehrmann Nothing specific yet. Where I am in my own writing will tell me what books and genres. But possibly some Erik Larson historical or young adult dystopian.
