Angela Shanté Write and read. Often. Being a reader can help you learn style and structure but it can also give you ideas, and fuel your own imagination. As a young girl I like to read because it transported me to different places I've never been, allowed me to meet different people I'd never meet, and helped shape my creativity in the process. Now I try to write stories that will do the same for young readers.
Angela Shanté I typically switch to another writing project. Sometimes putting down one story and giving it space to breath (and myself time to think) helps. When I return to it I often do so with fresh eyes and a new perspective about the cause of the block.
Angela Shanté I usually start with something I know. I start from the familiar and then venture out to create a world. The familiar can come in the form of: character(s), plot(s), problem(s), solution(s), setting(s) etc.
Angela Shanté The Noisy Classroom is about my class. I taught 3rd grade and my class was quite noisy. At the start of the year many of my students (and some of the parents) were nervous about being in such a non-traditional class. But It all worked out in the end!
