Elle Cardy While it's important to keep learning the craft of writing, the best way to improve is to keep writing and keep reading. Read anything and everything, and read daily. When you're writing your first draft, remember it's just a first draft. Expect it to be messy. Don't spend hours on one sentence or one paragraph. Just keep writing until it's down. Then go back and fix it.
Elle Cardy I'm currently working on books two and three of the Wielder's Storm series. It's a challenge tying my loose threads together, making sure my characters have a hard time yet overcoming their difficulties, and building an interesting world full of surprise and wonder. I must admit, I'm having an awesome time writing the series.
Elle Cardy The idea for this book evolved as I wrote it. I always had a love of the beautiful tall ships of the eighteenth century, so it made sense I would start there. I also had a ready-built world to work with from a previous set of novels I never finished. When I began Wielder’s Prize, I had no idea where it would lead. It was just as much an adventure for me as it was for Jasmine. It wasn’t until I got three quarters of the way through that I needed to start mapping out all the threads I’d laid out—who knew what, which secrets were revealed, which remained hidden. For hours I sat in front of a whiteboard with colour-coded post-it notes stuck to it. That may not sound like a whole lot of fun to you, but I had a great time.
