A.D. Hopkins Middle Earth. And try to have a beer with the Fellowship Of The Ring.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
A.D. Hopkins The kind I sometimes have is realizing the idea I have to start a project is not a very good one. But journalism taught me that not-so-good is still better than nothing, so I go ahead and write. I can go back later and polish up a poor beginning, but I often find that it really was much better than I expected, and only needs a tweak here or there.
Also, I was an insomniac most of my life, and found that on nights I could not sleep, I could write. They became my most productive times, and after a bout of writing, I slept like a bear.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
A.D. Hopkins Probably having people, who you have always admired for their financial success and general skillfulness at life, admit THEY envy YOU. I think their envy is misplaced, but I still enjoy it.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
A.D. Hopkins Start young, so if you're successful you'll have a long time to enjoy it, and so you'll look hot in your book jacket photo.

What are you currently working on?
A.D. Hopkins A sequel to "The Boys Who Woke Up Early." Didn't intend to do one, but a lot of readers asked for one.

How do you get inspired to write?
A.D. Hopkins Often I will be starting to sleep and an idea will drift into my head. I will get up and take notes about it, and later craft it into a story or part of a current novel.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
A.D. Hopkins Originally wanted to write about a character named "Really Big Ben" and invented a charismatic and principled small-town lawman to wear that name. Then I invented the supporting characters, teen-agers Stony and Jack, who grew into the main characters. But Ben remains important to the story.
