Janice L. Berliner Keep writing! Don't let the naysayers sway you - if you have a story to tell, tell it.
Janice L. Berliner What do you do when your ethics conflict? If your patient has a condition that could be genetic and his family doesn't know? Would you tell them? Would you maintain the strict patient confidentiality that your training engrained in you? Fiona's inner conflict leads her down a road of hearings with ethics boards and threats to her career, and she questions her every decision. Her efforts are rewarded with a friendship she never anticipated and the satisfaction that lives were saved by her courage.
Janice L. Berliner This work was inspired by my love of genetics, great story-telling and the element of surprise. Having been a practicing genetic counselor for nearly thirty years, and taking inspiration from my patients, I wanted to craft a story about a baby with a genetic disorder who causes her family tremendous angst, but ultimately allows healing and reconciliation. My two favorite authors, Jodi Picoult and Lisa Genova, provided unmatched examples of how to craft a strong and serious story with relatable characters, humor, love and unexpected plot twists.
