I don't really think there is such a thing. If it won't come, that means the concept is weak or it isn't a good fit for you. You have to really be INTO the topic or novel to write and edit an entire book! And yes, sometimes you have to walk away from that computer and take time off. But if you are committed to a book project, 4 hours a day is a great writing practice.

Camel Crazy has taken a great deal of work. Many years of research, writing and reporting went into it, plus fact-checking, science editing, and photograph-gathering. So right now, I'm just pleased to have it done and ready to launch! A few essays are in the planning stage as well.

It seems like I write books and articles that don't yet exist but need to. They often touch on emerging trends that start small, but become bigger or even global. I feel a drive to share such information with others, as it's likely to benefit them or make them feel less alone. If I don't do it, who will? But someday I may return to writing novels, which serve the same function but in a different way. One never knows what will strike a writer's mind!
