1. Write. Sounds cliche, but JUST DO IT. My first novel was mostly written in the early morning hours before work.
2. No Doubt. Don’t let your mind tell you that work is bad. Your job is to create the work, not judge it.

Usually I build a story or idea around one thing that I find, experience or learn. In my novelette Searching For Elvis (which I am getting ready to release in a few weeks), my friend and I flew to Florida to drive her mother home. She kept raving about this Elvis statue in a gift shop the whole trip. When I got back home from the trip, Searching For Elvis was born!
