Anna Krolick Getting to hang out with the characters I write about.
Anna Krolick Technically, I'm currently working on self-publishing for the first time. Writing and now publishing are things I'm doing in addition to my daily responsibilities. There hasn't been much time to write for a while. But I expect to get back to writing The Top 40 Temptress and the Rock Renovator, The Campbell and the One: Origins #2, very soon. I'm looking forward to it. Before I had to take a break, it was making me laugh.
Anna Krolick I ask myself: what story do I want to read? My goal is to entertain myself.
Anna Krolick In early 2019, I thought I might try self-publishing. I've been writing my series The Campbell and the One since 2016. However, as I investigated the self-publishing process, one website suggested that a newbie get their feet wet by publishing a shorter work. (One reason was that it would reduce the cost of hiring an editor, the first time around.) It seemed like logical advice, except nothing I'd written could be described as short. So, I started to think about the supporting characters in the series and if I could write a story based on any of them. The criterion was that the story would need to generate interest in the novels I'd been writing which I want to publish one day. I also didn't want to introduce spoilers. Then one day, I realized I'd essentially told the love story of the parents of a main character within one of the novels I'd finished. That got me to thinking that I could expand that into a novella or a short novel! Then I started wondering what the most important parents in that series, Bev and Henry Campbell, would have been like when they started dating. I knew what they were like in their mid-60s, but what were they like when they were turning 20, especially given Bev's talents? And that's how the novella The Human Lie Detector and the Hunkiest Hunk was born. I'm so glad it was! That was a fun story to write.
