My life is an open book, little mystery in it. But my mother told me that we had an ancestor who travelled widely through Europe in the early 1800’s. The family legend is that he had a wife in each country…sometimes several. That would be interesting.

I just love how a story comes together. When I start a story I have a basic plan but I don’t plot meticulously. I am always surprised by how a plot develops, quite often in ways that mean I need to adjust other elements. For example when I start writing a conversation I have no idea where or how it will end.
I don’t think I could do it at all if I had everything planned out in detail. I would be so bored.

You have to make time to write and you have to stick at it. But most important thing to do is start writing. That said, nothing will come if you don’t know what to write. I spend more time making notes, drawing maps, planning, ruminating, thinking and tossing ideas around than I do actually writing.

I have three to last me the rest of the year.
A little hatred by Joe Abercrombie. Amazing author. Probably my favourite fantasy writer out there.
Salvation Lost by Peter F Hamilton. Awesome Sci Fi from a true master.
Rando Slpicer by Joel Shepherd. Fantastic Space Opera.

That’s easy. Middle Earth. The original and still the best. What would I do? Fight monsters.

So far I have been lucky. Since I really committed to writing I have not had a problem. That said; distraction is a killer so really make sure there aren’t any. My books tend to be made up of multiple threads so if I get stuck on one I can put it aside for a few days and concentrate on another. So, two tips. No distractions and just keep writing.

I love writing. It’s what I have always wanted to do so it never seems a chore. My dream is to make a living from it, just enough to keep the dreaded nine to five from my door. That keeps me going, and knowing that people appreciate what I write. I have some great reviews on Amazon which is very validating.

Currently working on the second book of the series ‘The Pursuit of Wolves’. This picks up immediately after the end of ‘The Scattered King’. I am also working g on a book of myths and short histories from the fantasy world my books are set in.

It’s been simmering in my mind for years . The origin though comes from ancient Egyptian myth about the death of Osiris. I read a lot of ancient history as a child. It kind of stuck in my head and grew. I recently came across a book I wrote about thirty years ago, all the elements for ‘The Scattered King’ are there in some form or other. So I guess you could say I have been brewing it for decades.
