Bonnie Prestel I was in a writing workshop where the instructor asked us to write about a time in our life when we were young and in crisis. In the story, we meet our older self. What would our older self say to our younger self?

That writing exercise was the first chapter of my recent book, Nine 1/2 Months.
Bonnie Prestel When I was a young girl, about age 10, instead of playing dolls, I would play writing with my friend, Ange. We would sit for hours with paper and markers and write stories. When we were finished, we would trade and read each other's creation. It was a great escape, an adventure, and I was hooked.
Bonnie Prestel I am currently working on a novel about a group of people going through difficult transitions in life. They all meet when they rent rooms in the historic, haunted, Barker House.
Bonnie Prestel Write. Write. Write. Commit to write at least one picture frame every day.
Bonnie Prestel Creating imaginary worlds and meeting new characters that take you on a journey. In writing, you are able to go places that you could never go in real life.
Bonnie Prestel I would enter the world of "The Paris Wife," by Paula McLain. Take a step back in time to the 1920s. I would explore Paris with all five senses. See the sights, taste the food and wine; listen to the music, feel the breeze, and smell every flower and expensive perfume. I would meet the people and converse over coffee. I would talk and dine with Ernest Hemingway and his wife, Hadley. I would go dancing with F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda. I would admire art and poetry with Gertrude Stein. I would soak it all in and then write what I experience.
Bonnie Prestel Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens; Soar by T.D. Jakes; Love the One You're With by Lee Ellis, LCSW; The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant; Surviving Love, by Tonda Solomon.
