Ignore all the people who say, 'wow I can't believe you've written a book,' and listen to the people who have actual, helpful feedback, e.g. 'the chapters are really long, i found it hard to get through them.'
The first just feeds the ego, the second hurts for a second or two, but is much more useful. (someone actually said that about chapter 1 and 2 so I split them, and it works much better.)

There are lots of good things about writing. I get to see the story unfold. I get to work through issues. I get to do interesting research. But probably the best thing is scaring myself with a tense scene and then when it's finished I feel the adrenaline running through my system, even though I've just been sitting at my computer. That has happened once or twice and it's an awesome feeling.

I want to know what will happen next. I am highly logical so whatever they do has to make sense, but my characters seem to know where they are going. The characters themselves are inspired by people I meet, especially the younger characters, but they seem to develop their own personalities as I write them.

The idea had been bouncing around in my head for at least ten years... I read a lot of sci-fi when I was younger and I always wondered what I would do if society collapsed. When I bought my first house, I started thinking about it in detail; growing vegetables and preparing an emergency kit. I like daydreaming and over time had several stories in my head. One day I sat down to write and the ideas came flooding out.
