Laura Holt-Haslam Try to carve out a specific time to write each day, even if it's only for 30 minutes or an hour. Make it a habit. (Yes, I need to be better at following my own advice!)

I also suggest joining a critique group with other writers. They will give you support and encouragement, as well as much-needed honest feedback for improving your writing.

Laura Holt-Haslam I'm currently writing a prequel to A Place for Sofia.
Laura Holt-Haslam I loved writing stories when I was a child. Being a horse lover, most of my stories revolved around horses. I still have some of my notes and drawings of the various horse characters I created.

My oldest child and I share a love for horses and own a miniature horse together. When she went off to college, I missed our time together and knew I needed something to "distract" me from feeling sad. I took some free online classes about writing, and a year later, I started working on a story about a young girl who joins a horse club for miniature horses. It eventually became my first published novel, "A Place for Sofia".

I find inspiration in the horses and kids I've had the privilege to work with over the years. The thought that my stories might encourage and entertain readers keeps me writing.
