Daniel is a book that I've wanted to get out there for ages - as a boy I loved action-packed adventures and I'm a firm believer in encouraging reading for pleasure - and I wanted to set a novel in one of my favourite places - South Devon. I did a little digging into the history of that part of the country - knowing that the 17 century was an incredibly turbulent period in our history (civil war, rebellion, etc. etc) I began to see parallels with conflicts today - and the spark, I guess, for the theme behind the story is that, it is always good to question why people choose to go to war - the reasons are not always as obvious as you might think.

I guess every writer has their own reasons for wanting to write, whether they feel they have something important to say, or maybe just have a spark of a great idea. Some love the process itself, the wordsmithing, the construction, building characters and plot etc. But an enduring one for me is that of communication - I love the idea that my stories and storyworlds are created inside my head and then through my books enter the heads of others, whether the reader lives next door to me or the other side of the world - how cool is that!

Several projects in the background but most of my time during 2015 will be spent on my 'Daniel UK Tour 2015' - I've chosen to use my latest book, Daniel, to help raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust - I'm giving my time for free to visit numerous schools to give talks and do book signings - and £1 from every copy sold at these events will go to the trust.
