What a great question!
My books so far each revolve around something environmental, like eco-anxiety or sustainable technology, and then taking that idea and building a character off of it.
We all know people who resonate with the natural world to an incredible degree. So, one of my future projects is to build up a community of extreme tree huggers. People so in tune with the world that a gash to the world leaves a mark on their body. Sort of like Spock, on the Genesis world, when his body mirrored that planet's demise.
My subconscious is working on building up what a community like this would look like. How they would live. Their religion.
That will be intended as a short story or novella. :)
And I'm also brainstorming details on the final book in the trilogy, but keeping all that under wraps.
Thank you for the question, Cathleen!

I don't get writer's block very much. I force myself to write, remembering the adage that you can't edit a blank page. It's a benefit of being a plotter--the blocks are less frequent because the outline and the basic plot is formed before the writing happens.

Right before I switched from science research to fiction writing, I thought that I'd probably be the best boss I could ask for, as well as the best employee I could ask for. It's turned out to be true, and that's the best part, to me. I have a great boss, and I have a great employee.
But science, too, involves lots of writing and I'd say that the second best thing about writing, whether in science or in fiction, is the experience of transforming a blank page into effective, moving information.

Well, as with any job in life, there will be days you enjoy the process and days you don't enjoy it. If you'd like to be a writer, then my advice is to push through the hard days, but every now and then step back and ask whether the reality of being a writer is what you truly want.

Ooooh! I love this question. I'm currently ramping up to publish two new stories. One is a sequel to Aerovoyant, and the other is a short prequel. So, lots of editing and formatting and cover design going on right now.

Oh, I'm more of a butt-in-chair writer. I try to write something every morning and I wouldn't call my process 'inspired,' but I would say that once I start typing it does seem to get easier to keep going.

I contributed to the anthology "Writers in Lockdown" and the idea for my short story came from the worldbuilding I'm constantly working on for 'my planet,' Turaset. I know humans on Turaset had a period of devastating plague, and I wanted to write about a few characters who might have been alive during that time.
