John Vampatella This one came from relationships I have had with NFL players who were "53rd Man" types. My work is with college athletes and I've known many who have fought to make it in pro sports. They face unique challenges and not many people tell those stories, so I thought I may as well be the one to share them with the world.
John Vampatella I've always been a writer, looking to put my ideas down in some communicable form. It's how I process the world around me. Sometimes I am struck by a story that I think, wow, that needs to be told, and I see if anyone else has already told that story. If not, I think maybe I should be the one to tell it.
John Vampatella Rowman & Littlefield is in the production phase of publishing my latest book, titled "53rd Man", which is about men fighting for a place in the NFL. It's got lots of interesting stories, and you'll get an up close look at life in pro football, learning things you may never have known before. And there are lessons for us in this book, whether we are athletes or not.
John Vampatella Write because you love it. Don't worry about the money. This is a hard business to make lots of money in, so write because you enjoy telling stories, communicating ideas, and putting your thoughts down on "paper" (so to speak). If you have a really good idea and write it well, you'll find a way to get published.
John Vampatella For me, it's sharing stories and ideas that are worth sharing. There are so many great people in the world, with amazing stories that deserve to be shared. I love being the one to communicate some of them.
John Vampatella I always have two projects going at once. Maybe not two books, but two writing projects. That way if I suffer writer's block on one project, I simply switch to the other. I rarely find it the case that I am dealing with writer's block on both projects. This way I'm always advancing something.
