Cece Harbor I once had the honor of meeting Pulitzer prize poet Gwendolyn Brooks. I was maybe eleven or twelve and I told her that I wanted to be writer. I was overcome with emotion -- I was face-to-face with THE Gwendolyn Brooks. I asked: how do I become a writer? She said, "Just write." And back then it didn't quite sink in but as an adult now, I totally get it. My advice, to echo Ms. Brooks, is to just write. Even when it's bad, especially when it's bad, keeping writing.
Cece Harbor I'm currently working on a memoir about growing up in the Lowcountry of the south. I'm proud of it and love doing the research (e.g., talking to elders in the family, newspaper and library research) to bring it to life.
Cece Harbor I love a good beach read and I especially love stories written about the Lowcountry of the south. The thing is: I think there are multiple dimensions and more depth than what's out there. The Lowcountry is not a monolith, there are various cultures and family histories that deserved to be told. I want to help tell those stories.
